CBH RUNS FIRST KIDS SUMMER CAMP AT GAHANGA

Oxford dragon school 2.JPG

Thanks to generous support from The Dragon School in Oxford, and in partnership with the RCA, we were able to run our first Kids Summer Camp at the Stadium.

The camp was aimed at introducing cricket to young children aged between 8 and 11 years old as well as equipping them with basic life skills such as communication, teamwork and problem-solving. At Cricket Builds Hope we believe these life skills are essential for the good early development of children.

The camp took place at Gahanga Cricket Stadium from 30 November to 4 December and was the first of it’s kind in Kigali. We hosted 30 children (15 girls and 15 boys) recruited from the community around the stadium with their parent’s consent.

Each day’s schedule was about four hours long and had a specific life skill focus such as teamwork or gender equality. The children had bowling, batting and fielding sessions in parallel as well as competitive fun games and breaks for water, lunch and feedback.

The final day of the camp was a little different - with competitive matches throughout the day, finishing with some Christmas carols and a closing ceremony where medals were handed out to all the children who had participated. The ceremony was attended by the General Manager of RCA, the Development Manager and the National Head Coach of Rwanda Cricket Association. as well as some senior members of the national team
