COVID 19 UPDATE - LIFE AT GAHANGA CRICKET STADIUM

How has life at the Gahanga Cricket Stadium been affected by COVID-19? Here is an update...

Like other international sports stadiums, the GCS has been closed to spectators since March. Rwanda went into lockdown a week before the UK and, mercifully, has suffered a relatively low number of deaths due to COVID-19 (34) compared to other countries.

The wicket and outfield have both been looking lush after a few months of lower use and the ground staff have been busy replanting flowers, repairing tiles and fences, finishing the construction of the office roof, and much more besides.

Although club and league cricket has not yet resumed, training has been taking place for the national teams (women, men, U19 and U23), and some CBH sessions, following new COVID-19 regulations. But there has been a severe loss of income due to spectators and events not being allowed.

If you want to show your support, you can donate to CBH here, which manages the GCS jointly with the RCA. And if you want to support the GCS directly, why not think about arranging a visit, or a tour with your cricket club, once the pandemic has subsided? We will gladly give you some pointers on how that can be arranged...
